On the trip south from the airport on 307 you'll pass major grocery store chains in Playa Del Carmen, including Soriana, Chedraui, Wal-Mart and Mega. Another great option is San Franciso de Assis supermarket in Tulum, 10 minutes south of Chan Chemuyil on 307. In the pueblo of Chemuyil there is a large convenience store called the Super Pool Express and there are also many smaller local stores that will have basic necessities.
What are some recommended local activities?
As a visitor to the area, you should plan to visit Xcacel beach to relax on a secluded stretch of white sand and turquoise water, perfect for bodysurfing. Xel-Ha, an eco-theme park, is a mile and a half south of Chan Chemuyil. The caves, cenotes and zip-lines of Hidden Worlds/Dos Ojos are just 2 miles south.

Chan Chemuyil has a community WiFi hub which the owner sells time on a weekly and monthly basis. There are two internet cafes in the pueblo of Chemuyil. One is part of the laundromat (lavanderia) and the other is attached to the video store across from Pizzeria Leo's. The price is approximately $1.20 USD an hour. If you are bringing a laptop, free wi-fi is offered in Tulum to patrons at Empanada Joe's and Don Cafeto.

Yes, it is safe for families – but take normal precautions and be sure to lock the doors to your rental casa. Also, do not leave valuables in your car and always lock it. Neighbors are extremely friendly and go out of their way to help each other out. Kids play in the streets and on the beach - making new friends with other vacationers on a daily basis. We have had amazing feedback from our guests - some of which were visiting Mexico for the first time not knowing what to expect due to the news.
